CarPaintCode

Where is the paint code on a Volkswagen?

Vehicle data sticker in the spare-wheel well and in the service booklet. Four characters starting with L, for example LC9X (Deep Black Pearl) or LB9A (Candy White), printed with the interior code.

  1. Boot (trunk) floor / spare-wheel well

Step by step

  1. Open the boot, lift the floor cover and look for the vehicle data sticker in or near the spare-wheel well.
  2. Read the line labelled Lack-Nr./Innenausst. or Paint no./Interior; the paint code is the part before the slash.
  3. The same sticker is copied into the service booklet.

Catalogues often drop the leading L: C9X and LC9X are the same colour. SEAT and Skoda use the same sticker.

No label?

Labels fade or go missing after repairs. A Volkswagen dealer can read the original colour from the VIN, and the service booklet often lists it. If the car has been resprayed, have a painted part (the fuel filler flap is ideal) scanned at a paint shop.
